Over the last 4 years you may have noticed Dr. Pollard’s work in the Big Island Arts Annual. Bet you couldn’t look at his pages without triggering your imagination.The intense colors and textures seem to flow well beyond the page frame.

New images are going up on Dr. Pollard’s app page soon. So if you already have the app be sure to open his page again in a few days to see the new work which he has just completed. I’m sharing a close up segment of one titled Sea Growth.

I wish to celebrate the magic that has been unfolding now the coming 5th year of Big Island Arts Annual. We think you know us so well that we took the leap to change our name to the name on our app, Art Hawaii.  The planning to shift into digital media has been exciting and showing great response thanks to online shoppers.  Thanks to reliable shippers too! Artists have been shipping their work globally for ages, now it just gets easier to handle all the communication via Art Hawaii app.

The dramatic light, or should I say, absence of light up slope makes the contrasts jump out from this view. Standing on top of the ocean splashed mounds of lava and looking up to Honaunau from the City of Refuge is an ever changing light show.  You can watch the higher levels get rain while you bask in the sun.

You get to decide, bring a good book or paints.  And now there are two places at the top of the road to get fruit smoothies; yum!

Roz Marshall Gallery is in Kealakekua opposite the Keei Cafe. She has been a long time supporter of arts programs. Her work is always refreshing; some has been made into ceramic tiles.  Her gallery is a lively place worth a visit with liberal time to enjoy her wide variety of work.  Call to confirm hours 808-640-1668.

Once there it is just 5 miles more towards Hilo for a once a year special at 2400 Fahrenheit glass sale. Just swing off the road to Old Volcano Road between mile markers 24-23.Look for the sign.  Michael & Misato Mortara are very much in touch with other glass artists around the island and have invited several to join in.  You will get your eyes dazzled by the colors and designs. You will also have a chance to meet those who are dedicated to the glassmaking art. This venue is open from 10:00 to 4:00.
