Art Hawaii, new app live

24 Jun

Logic said “take one step at a time.” We looked at this gargantuan shift into mobile media. Light goes on.

Lets bring artists and galleries we have presented over the past four years in our print production Big Island Arts Annual to the  mobile audience. I have always wished  art pages could have lights embedded in them to make images glow.  Ha, mobile goodies like phones, pods and pads do it!

Skip ahead to ….taaa..da, today. We have Art Hawaii up in the App Store. This app  includes  24 artists and galleries.  There is so much.

Send us some feedback.  Your impressions will help guide where the future of the Big Island art world goes.

Bonus: the added screen space on an iPad makes some neat things happen. The blog gets  mashed into a collage. Check out the image below. Playful, magical colors all together.  Love it.

Alexis, thanks for the massive number of hours you devoted to putting this  app together.

Living Arts Gallery Turns Two

9 Jun

Seems like the opening day for the new gallery in Hawi was just a short time ago but actually two years have passed. They are lighting sparklers and celebrating their success. The gallery has supported many artists, community events, talk-story, music, art education etc. in their charming historical building on the highway. Look for the giant copper monsteria leaf sculpture outside with their sign and ribbons flying.

The public is invited to come up to Living Arts Gallery in  Hawi Saturday, June 11th between 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM  to enjoy treats and art prizes. Let the sun gods be kind so that it can spill out on the lanai.  If you need more information just call 808-889-0739.

Cosmic Energy Visible in Quilts

10 Apr

The quilt display at the Hualalai Learning Theatre in the headquarters of W. M. Keck Observatory in Waimea has just come down. Many people enjoyed the magical images and more wanted to.  The first purpose of the space at W. M. Keck Headquarters is for the business of astronomy and is not always available for visitors.  I’m giving you a cost effective way to see the full display of the quilts devoted to the theme of astronomy and nature from the Big Island perspective.  I’ll keep you posted if the quilts are displayed again at another venue so that you can get the full impact of the detail involved in their creation. Quilters, you are welcome to add to this entry.  Send us your background stories.
