Dramatic Light

19 Oct

Feels like in between seasons right now.  The population of the island will soon build up as we move closer to the year end stream of holidays.  I keep hearing from artists that they are readying their galleries with new work and are eager to see the folks come in who appreciate the quality.  Is there time to go to the beach and just kick back?  Ahhhh, yes, the nature of the island is what inspires.

The dramatic light, or should I say, absence of light up slope makes the contrasts jump out from this view. Standing on top of the ocean splashed mounds of lava and looking up to Honaunau from the City of Refuge is an ever changing light show.  You can watch the higher levels get rain while you bask in the sun.

You get to decide, bring a good book or paints.  And now there are two places at the top of the road to get fruit smoothies; yum!

I’ve been talking about the 2010 Big Island Arts Annual as it has so much new  for you to enjoy. Yet, our previous issues are chock full of wonderful artists and information as well. Hold on to your copies, these are “keepers.”

Last month, in order to meet with our public we soaked up some hot sun  on Alii Drive during the Village Stroll. We were partnering with Barbara Garcia Bowman, Co-Publisher of Ke Ola Magazine. The location, you may notice, is right in front of the gate at Hulihee Palace. This

is where you can find Barb every month and sometimes Alexis and yours truly, Mars.

Art Blossoms

11 Aug

We are beginning to create the pages of the 2010 Big Island Arts Annual.  We have to start early as it goes out to the public in November. Some people are eager to buy art for special gifts. Our 2010 edition will be ready to help with the selection of great art from the artists and galleries of the island of Hawai’i.  Many changes have come to the island since our 2009 publication. You’ll want to see what I’m talking about. Visit our web site for links to a great variety of art.

Hurricane Felicia was good to us and brought only rain. Mahalo!!! So refreshing.
